On Board the Komagata Maru is a fictional travelling exhibit and gala event that aims to educate the public of the events that took place in Vancouver and India. Proceeds would go towards helping support Punjabi Immigrants move to Canada to start a new life.
The event takes on the idea of storytelling through generations. The dreams of those aboard the ship, the journey it took to get there, and the influence it had on immigration laws. The after effects can still be felt today in Punjab, India. Marketing for the event focuses on telling the stories of those aboard the ship, and building a personal connection with the target market.
Visual elements are meant to honor the culture of India while holding space for imagery to tell the story. The lightness of colours is meant to make the heaviness of this history more approachable to a wider audience.
